Spiced date and orange loaf
December 15, 2009
Not being well enough to go back to work today meant I missed our office christmas lunch. I can’t say I was particularly in the mood for drinking anything, but I quite fancied some christmassy food. So I decided to cheer myself up by making this deliciously sticky, seasonally spiced date and orange loaf. Again, I took elements of various different recipes, changing the originals depending on what I already had at home. But this is far enough from any of the recipes I looked at that I think I can call it my own invention. And I have to tell you, a slice or two of warm date loaf with a cup of tea made me feel very christmassy indeed.
One of the advantages of a loaf over a cake is it’s very easy to cut into portions and pop in the freezer – although this is one of those teatime treats that gets better with time. Keep it in an airtight container and you’ll be enjoying it just as much, if not more, in a week’s time. Not that it’ll last that long…

My friend took me to this place that makes Indianapolis Specialty Desserts and we both had a piece of something that looked like this. Very delicious, but I had also sampled so many other things, I’m not sure which each was anymore. Maybe I’ll try this sometime!

I am sure Leify would have been highly amused and delighted to see her plates and old knife (although the state of the knife might have embarassed her) being used for your photos.
I am definitely coming back to the idea of cooking
and am going to make the date and orange loaf.
