Makes 10-12 biscuits
125g unsalted butter
125g soft brown sugar
250g plain flour
2tsp ground ginger
1tbsp black treacle
1tbsp golden syrup
1 Heat the oven to gas mark 4. Cream together the butter and sugar in a mixing bowl, then add the flour, ginger, egg, treacle and syrup, and beat well.
2 Line a baking tray with greaseproof baking paper, and drop dessertspoonfuls of the mixture onto it, leaving room for them to expand.
3 Bake for 15-20 minutes until light golden brown, then place on a wire rack to cool completely.
